Plugins

  • New feature: Images can now be used in plugins
  • New feature: Plugins can specify vertical padding around static text, in pixels, as "vpad" attribute - see plugin.xsd. The attribute value indicates the number of pixels of vertical spacing over and above that of a natural line break. If the attribute is not specified, the behaviour will be as currently. If the attribute is specified as 0, the vertical spacing is the same as a single wrapped static.
  • Improvement: Plugin screens can now fit exactly 9 fields, or 10 links, or 12 lines of continuous text, or 10 single-line static fields (12 with vpad="0"). This brings more space and greater consistency of presentation across TV platforms.
  • Improvement: the "size" attribute of fields is now more accurately honoured on TV platforms. If the size attribute is not specified, the field is sized to 100% of the available horizontal space.
  • Improvement: On Virgin, the focus now defaults to the first focusable field (previously it would skip over input fields to the first multisubmitField).
  • Improvement: The searchField layout has been improved to allow longer titles and searchField size before wrapping/truncating.
  • Bug fix: The searchField is now correctly submitted on Sky and WAP 1, regardless of which button is used to submit the form.
  • Bug fix: plugins can now mix text/number fields with multisubmit fields on the same form without producing layout problems on Virgin.

Content (all platforms)

  • Improvement: "Content" and "Content with Image", "Submenu" and "Submenu with Image" screens now fit 10 links, 12 lines of text*, or 10 short paragraphs**
  • Improvement: "Home" screens now fit 8 lines of text, or 7 short paragraphs.
    * Normal text = continuous text, or text blocks separated by single carriage returns.
** Paragraphs = text blocks separated by empty lines (double carriage returns). Obviously if a paragraph takes up more than one line, you won't fit 10 of them on a content screen, etc.
  • Improvement: The pure red font used for warnings about empty mandatory form field is now coloured off-red, within saturation guidelines for TV.

Sky

  • Improvement: Text is brighter (but still within saturation guidelines).
  • Improvement: The main content area is slightly wider and taller
  • Improvement: Menu items in the Blue & Lilac theme have greater contrast when selected, improving accessiblity.
  • Improvement: Content images are presented 7% larger (dimensions 256x256, up from 240x240). See "Known issues" below.
  • Improvement: The frame around content images is thinner and symmetrical (16 pixel width all round).
  • Improvement: Navigation buttons and menu items are longer and slightly thinner.
  • Improvement: Content paragraphs are better spaced (e.g. see Help).
  • Improvement: The background images have fewer compression artifacts, but filesizes are no larger.
  • Improvement: The Quicklinks "back up to close" link is bottom-aligned and better presented. The Quicklinks border is thinner.
  • Improvement: The relative alignment and spacing of images, frames, navigation buttons and content has been improved.
  • Improvement: Menu and Help buttons are now suppressed in Help screens, consistent with other TV platforms.
  • Improvement: The bezier-curved cutout for paging text is slighter shorter, to allow an off-black gap symmetrical with that above the hint area.
  • Bug fix: Multi-line mandatory fields are now effectively validated .

Virgin

  • Improvement: A greater range of extended characters (e.g. quotation marks, apostrophes, accents letters) are displayed.
  • Improvement: Input fields on forms are now more consistently spaced.
  • Improvement: Multi-line form input fields are presented on the same line as the field label, consistent with other TV platforms.

Netgem preview

  • Improvement: the content area now scrolls in all screen templates when there is too much text.
  • Bug fix: microsite logos are now presented at the correct resolution of 272x96 rather than 278x96.

Content management system

  • Improvement: Form e-mails look more like screens on the live service, with the inclusion of static text form fields and the use of the field label rather than name/hint text.
  • Improvement: the "name" property of form fields, previously used both for hint text on Sky and Netgem and form-e-mails, is now used exclusively for hint text, and is referred to as "Hint text" in the CMS. Whereas previously additional text was added to the field name to produce the hint text (e.g. as "<name> is required"), the hint text property is now used exactly as entered in the CMS.
  • Improvement: content is presented "wrapped" in screen read mode, giving an appearance closer to that on TV. (Note: this does not remove the need to properly check content for scrolling).
  • Improvement: Static form fields are more elegantly displayed in form read mode, with the text spanning all columns of the properties table.
  • Bug fix: Empty lines are now correctly shown in screen read mode.
  • Bug fix: the "numbers only on Sky" property of form fields is now properly saved, and behaves correctly on TV.

Known issues

  • Content images are now presented at different resolutions on different TV platforms (this was already the case for Mobile). The resolutions are now: Sky - 256x256 pixels; Virgin - 240x240 pixels; Mobile - 128x128 pixels. This reflects the differing screen space available for content on different platforms, for example on Virgin the screen space is reduced by the TV window/ad banner. This change will improve readability of detailed images on Sky, but may cause minor issues for content images containing text, which may not scale aesthetically.
