Looking Local has teamed up with volunteering website Do-it to deliver a new app for Android smartphone owners allowing them to search for volunteering opportunities across the UK. Whether you have a spare hour or a week, want to do something one-off or regularly, the new app lets you access Do-it's one million plus opportunities.

Available now for free in the Android Market, the Do-it app allows people across the UK to discover new volunteering opportunities from youth work to music, gardening to art and everything in between. The app takes advantage of the Android phone's GPS functionality and allows users to search by geography, by distance, as well as their area of volunteering interest or qualification.

Do-it is the UK's leading volunteer database run by charity YouthNet. It hosts around 1 million opportunities to volunteer from more than 600 partners representing over 28,000 organisations. The new Android app was promoted as part of Make a Difference Day (October 29th) and launched in parallel with Do-it's 16th anniversary as a leader in the volunteer arena.

Olly Benson, Head of Projects for Do-it, said:

"One of the overarching aims of the Do-it service is to make volunteering accessible to everyone, so we're really excited to be involved in a project that focuses on young people specifically and makes it easier for them to search for volunteering opportunities on their mobile devices.

"The new Do-it app will allow more young people to access volunteering opportunities that are tailored to their needs, get involved with their local communities and build valuable experience for the future."

Looking Local - owned by Kirklees Council - delivers public sector services on interactive TV, smartphones, mobile and games consoles. The Do-it volunteering app is one of a range of smartphone apps that Looking Local has developed around public sector and related services.

Guy Giles, Operations Manager for Looking Local said:

"With the latest OFCOM figures showing that over 50% of teenagers own a smartphone, they are becoming the device of choice across the younger generation. With around two-thirds of Do-it's 700,000 registered volunteers being under 30 the app was a clear way to improve reach to new and existing audiences."
